Our story

(Jess’s Version)

Our love story begins in an automotive manufacturing plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The most romantic place you can imagine, I’m sure.

There I was, sitting in the back of a Cadillac Lyriq with a seat totally pulled apart, trying to recollect how to read electrical schematics and fully ready to accept defeat. Austin happened to be the launch engineer at the time for the seats and you can imagine his frustration when it became clear the issue wasn’t just my inability to read electrical schematics correctly and he had an issue to solve! Needless to say, it wasn’t quite a meet-cute.

Fast-forward to Christmastime, 2023. By chance, I ended up at a Christmas party where I recognized Austin instantly. I knew I had to talk to him just to see if he was the same grinch I met in Spring Hill! This time though, things were different, as things often are when you're out of a stressful work environment. Austin and I hit it off instantly, and we've talked every single day since that party (even though he led off with a text that said, “tap tap tap check, check, is this thing on? This is Austin Wooldridge, hello/hallo/hola/こんにちは”).

All jokes aside, falling in love with Austin has been the honor of a lifetime, and I can't wait to share more of our story with you when you join us on our wedding day!

Love, Jess.

(Austin’s Version)

Speaking as a former launch engineer, there is nothing I hate more than being pulled into issues from other teams, especially electrical issues. So, there I was, minding my own business when I get called over to help diagnose a harness issue on some rear seats. I was about six months into my stint ‘living’ but mostly working in Tennessee, so my temperament was…short (when is it not, amirite?).

Walking up to the car I encounter my electrical counterpart and this random software engineer I had never met, trying to sort out an electrical diagram. In my typical manner of dealing with things, when they told me the issue with the harness was indeed mine, I took it very calmly and professionally and not at all like someone had insulted me and my precious parts.

I never really thought about that issue or that software engineer after the problem was resolved, it was just one of hundreds of issues I had to go through during that launch and developing relationships was not on my priority list or my forte. I guess I left an impression on that random software engineer because 18 months later, at the pre-game for a Santa-themed Bar Crawl (I know, I know), that engineer, who I found out was a real life woman named Jess, called me out and reminded me of that time we shared in the back of a Lyriq.

After sheepishly apologizing for my past indiscretions and immediately wanting to leave, I found that she was still talking to me instead of running away, asking me questions, wanting to get to know me, I guess? And she was, like, beautiful and charming? I was dumbfounded and couldn’t really understand why it was happening and whether I was being pranked.

After a long night of Christmas themed cocktails at many establishments around Royal Oak [Editor’s Note: he had one G&T and didn’t finish it], spending the entire night together inseparably, I managed to get her number from a mutual friend and despite my trademark ‘earnest but incredibly cringe’ introductory message, I began to fall slowly, madly in love with this woman and am continuously in awe of her intelligence, beauty, and compassion. She has brought a light into my life that I never thought I would find, let alone deserve.

I am excited to share our love with you all on our wedding day and hope that you fall for her as hard as I have.

Love, Austin.
